Shafer Center offering 'Green Dot' training
SUMMARY: April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and the Schaefer Center for Crisis Intervention in Pine Belt is working to break the stigma by encouraging everyone to get involved. Taking action can make a difference in reducing the number of victims.

Former Pine Belt baseball standout sentenced to prison in Indiana
SUMMARY: Former Pine Belt baseball star and Major League outfielder, Dustin Moore, has been sentenced to 9 years in prison for child sexual abuse charges. The 47-year-old was found guilty of three counts, with two years suspended. Moore, who played for teams like the Minnesota Twins and Boston Red Sox, was working as an instructor in Indiana when he was arrested for alleged interactions with a 14-year-old. In addition to the prison sentence, he was ordered to pay over $133,000 to two people. Moore, who starred at Oak Grove High School and the University of Alabama, will serve his sentence for child solicitation, seduction, and misconduct with a minor.
