Jasper Co. man sentenced to 40 years in Jones Co. statutory rape case
SUMMARY: A Jasper County man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for statutory rape. Jonathan Harrelson was arrested by Jones County deputies in September 2022 on charges of statutory rape and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He is not eligible for parole and will serve his sentence day-for-day in the custody of MDOC. The case can be read about on WDAM.

Cars keep hitting family's home

New Houlka is increasing its water and sewer rates
SUMMARY: The town of New Hoka has approved an increase in water and sewer rates, affecting water customers in the area. The rates will go up by $4, from $21 to $25 for the first 2,000 gallons, appearing on the July 2024 water bill. The decision was made due to rising operating costs caused by an increase in the price of supplies and materials. East Union defeats Pisgah in Softball State Championships
SUMMARY: In the State softball championships, East Union faced off against Pisa with Miss softball Lucy Cochran leading the way. With a dominating performance, East Union held a 1-0 lead going into the sixth inning. Pisa had a chance to score, but East Union managed to throw out a runner at home plate. In the seventh inning, Marley Clayton added an insurance run with an RBI single. Cochran pitched the entire game, securing a shutout win with a final score of 3-0. East Union emerged victorious in a hard-fought matchup at the championships.
