What are MDOT’s guidelines for political signs?
SUMMARY: Political signs are causing frustration in the capital city of Jackson, Mississippi. The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) says that as long as the signs are kept out of the state's right-of-way requirements, they are not their responsibility. The signs are not permitted within right-of-way areas on state highways, and MDOT crews will pick up signs that are within their jurisdiction. Signs that are not collected will be stored for two weeks before being disposed of. The Secretary of State's Office advises individuals to check with local authorities for any specific regulations regarding political signage placement. If illegally placed signs are not picked up, they contribute to the state's litter problem.
