Vancleave seamstress shows off some of her best Mardi Gras costumes
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Gulf Coast will flood with extravagant costumes, floats, and Mardi Gras celebrations. Seamstress Shelia Gray of Vancleave dedicates her whole year to preparing for the Mardi Gras season. She has been creating the Mardi Gras costuming for the Gulf Coast Carnival Association since 1980. Gray says the ‘wow' factor of the costumes wouldn't happen without her. If you attend the Gulf Coast Carnival Association Mardi Gras parade, you can see Gray's beautiful handmade costumes and witness her sigh of relief as she watches her hard work in action.

The system will gradually move eastward, with activity diminishing by tomorrow afternoon. Sunshine is expected by tomorrow afternoon. Special Olympics MS Summer games opening ceremony
SUMMARY: South Mississippi athletes and their families gathered at Keesler Air Force Base for the opening ceremonies of the Special Olympics Summer Games. The event, themed “Adventure is Out There”, featured over 500 athletes competing in nine different sports. The torch, carried from Balia, Mississippi, was used to light the cauldron and will remain lit until the closing ceremonies on Sunday. Athletes have sponsors and compete in various events including athletics, aquatics, bocce, bowling, golf, powerlifting, tennis, and volleyball. The event, organized by volunteers, has been a tradition for over 35 years and continues to grow each year. Public can attend the competitions on May 11th at Keesler Air Force Base.
