Tupelo Police responded to bomb threat at airport

SUMMARY: This morning, there were bomb threats reported at airports and synagogues across the country, including in Northeast Mississippi. Threats were reported at Tupelo Regional Airport, as well as synagogues in Tupelo and Columbus. Operations at the airport have since resumed and returned to normal. Workers at the airport and related businesses were evacuated to the National Guard Armory. The FBI and Department of Homeland Security officers were on the scene quickly, and are working to find out more about the threats. WTV reporter Wayne Herford was on the scene, and said the situation was far from normal.

Authorities responded to a bomb threat Thursday morning at the Tupelo Regional Airport.

SUMMARY: West Alabama hospital, Whitfield Regional Hospital in Demopolis, announced the temporary closure of its labor and delivery unit due to the primary physician being on extended leave until September 1st. The hospital stated on Facebook that there are no replacement physicians available for 24/7 coverage in the unit and plans are in place to ensure emergency medical care related to pregnancy continues to be provided. Another physician, Dr. Lesman, will still perform planned C-sections for established patients who are at or beyond 32 weeks in their pregnancy. The closure is effective immediately, with a focus on patient safety and care during this period.

Tree falls into South Jackson home
