The 13th annual Wings & Tails event is right around the corner
SUMMARY: The 13th annual Wings and Tails fundraiser event will be held on May 7th at the historic Key Brothers hangar at Meridian Regional Airport. The event will feature a social hour at 5:30pm, followed by dinner at 6:30pm with a menu including catfish, shrimp, chicken wings, potatoes, and corn. Live music, vintage Hot Rods, airplanes, and jets will be on display. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased from Navy League members or on their Facebook page. All proceeds will support Nas Meridian. The event is sponsored by Meridian Coca-Cola Mitchell Distributing and the ice plant.

Local reactions to Medger Evers receiving Presidential Medal of Freedom
SUMMARY: Medgar Evers, a civil rights leader from Mississippi, was recently awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest honor a civilian can receive. Evers, a native of Newton County, served in World War II and fought tirelessly for equal rights. He was the state's first field secretary for the NAACP, organizing protests and boycotts, including the Talo 9 sit-in in downtown Jackson. Evers paved the way for the NAACP by getting members involved and dedicated his life to the fight for civil rights. His dedication and legacy continue to inspire activists today. Evers is the 10th Mississippian to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
It's the highest honor a civilian can receive, along with serving in World War 2, Evers fought tirelessly for equal rights.

Amory aims to build large storm shelter before next severe weather season
SUMMARY: The city of Amry is planning to build a new community storm shelter that will be one of the largest in the city. The shelter will be 12 ft wide, 64 ft in length, and able to hold up to 130 people. The city has applied for a $750,000 grant to help fund the project.
