Super Bowl winning NFL player returns to Vicksburg

SUMMARY: Former Patriot and Tennessee Titan, Malcolm Butler, returned to his old high school, Vicksburg High School, for the 9th annual Malcolm Butler Football Camp. The camp aims to develop skills for current and aspiring players while also inspiring the younger generation. Butler, a Super Bowl-winning defensive back and a product of Vicksburg and Hinds Community College, was joined by active college football players from nearby Alcorn to coach the campers. This annual special significance for Butler, who marks it on his calendar like he used to for big NFL .

Vicksburg High School and Hinds CC product Malcolm Butler was back at his old high school Saturday morning for his annual free football camp for kids. This event brings in hundreds of kids from the area and Butler is always and proud to put on this camp that is going in it's 9th year. Butler is a 7 year NFL pro who made the famous interception for the Patriots at the goal line against the Seahawks to secure a Super Bowl title.

Lamar County creating 'crisis crisis stabilization unit' in Purvis

SUMMARY: The Mississippi collaborative response to mental Act, signed into in 2023, requires law enforcement agencies to crisis intervention . Delaney Dukes reports on WD7 and Pine Grove Behavioral Health partnering to raise mental health awareness. With Crisis Intervention training, can identify and deescalate mental health crises, rather than automatically arresting individuals. Lamar County Sheriff Regal acknowledges increased awareness and plans to certify all officers in CIT. The establishment of a crisis stabilization unit in partnership with Forest County and Hattisburg is underway. This new approach aims to neutral, non-jail settings for those in crisis, benefiting the community. The Old National Guard building is set to be remodeled for this purpose, starting next month.

Two hospitalized after shooting in Lamar County
