Snake repellants do not work. MDWFP reveals what does
SUMMARY: Experts are advising against using snake repellents as they are ineffective and dangerous to the environment. The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks states that snakes play an important role in balancing the ecosystem, with only six out of 55 types being venomous. Instead of killing snakes, people should avoid provoking or handling them. Measures such as keeping the property clean, watching where you walk or place your hands, and not disturbing dead snakes can help prevent snake encounters. Additionally, people can identify venomous snakes by looking for features such as facial pits, vertically elliptical pupils, single scale rows underneath the tail, and rattles on the tail.
