Skilled to Work: How to become a physical therapy assistant
SUMMARY: Mississippi is facing a shortage of medical professionals, including physical therapy assistants, to fill healthcare positions. According to the World Health Organization, 2.4 billion people worldwide require some form of rehabilitation due to health conditions or injuries, with physical therapy being crucial for recovery. Physical therapist assistants work under licensed PTs to provide patient care, helping individuals regain independence and return to their daily lives. Unlike other healthcare professions that require extensive schooling, PTAs typically train for 2 years before obtaining a state license. With Mississippi's aging population, the demand for rehab professionals like PTAs continues to grow.
WTVA's Michelle Martin shows us how to become physical therapy assistant in this week's Skilled to Work.
