Shelter ready to open in Jackson during extreme cold

SUMMARY: The City of Jackson in Mississippi is partnering with the Red Cross, Shower Power, and the People's Advocacy Institute to provide shelter for those in need during extreme cold temperatures. A shelter will be opened at Sheppard's Gym on January 11, located at 1355 Hattiesburg Street and will be open at 11:00 a.m. City leaders are gathering supplies such as cots and blankets, preparing facilities, and have backup facilities at the Police Training Academy and Sykes Gym. The city's Constituent Services Department will have an action line available for neighbors in need at 601-960-1111.

SHS seniors take final stroll through elementary school halls

SUMMARY: The senior class at Starkville High School participated in an annual “Senior Walk” where they visited all schools in the district to see former teachers and receive well wishes from current students. They were cheered on by students as they walked through the halls, taking pictures along the way. This stop was at Henderson Ward Stewart, where students in grades two to four showed their support.
