Red Cross, LFD distribute 400 smoke alarms as part of ‘Sound the Alarm’ event
SUMMARY: Charles Herrington of WDAM 7 promoted disaster awareness in the community by organizing an event to install free smoke alarms for residents in Alabama and Mississippi. The event was part of an annual initiative and has resulted in the installation of about 1600 smoke alarms so far. The alarms installed were lithium battery-powered. The goal of the event was to ensure that all residents have working smoke alarms and to provide fire safety education to prevent loss of life and property in the event of a house fire.
The American Red Cross and the Laurel Fire Department teamed up Saturday to distribute hundreds of free smoke detectors to folks in the Pendorff area.
