Poplarville Dominates Moss Point 54 – 12
SUMMARY: Poplarville High School's football team bounced back from a previous loss to dominate Moss Point in their Region 8-4A opener. Despite being relatively inexperienced, the Hornets rushed for 402 yards and scored early and often in a 54-12 victory. This win marked the 100th win for head coach Jay Beech at Poplarville. The Tigers initially had the upper hand with an early touchdown, but Poplarville quickly responded and took the lead for good. Freshman Ty Keys had an impressive debut as a starter, scoring four touchdowns and running for 168 yards. The Hornets' offense was dominant, never having a negative yardage play and converting both of their third downs. Moss Point struggled to finish drives and convert fourth downs throughout the game. Poplarville's defense made crucial stops and interceptions to secure the win. The Hornets' backups also got a chance to play and contributed to the team's 54-12 victory. Poplarville's next game is against Pass Christian, while Moss Point will face Bay High.

SUMMARY: In an emotional ceremony at Lee Tingle Field in Pascagoula, Lee Tingle's No. 17 was honored by Resurrection Catholic School before a playoff game. Tingle, who was set to coach at RCS but died from Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease at 52 on December 2, 2022, was remembered for his dedication to baseball and his community. The event was bittersweet, occurring just hours after the death of Gene Frederick, the father of the current RCS coach. The school and community celebrated Tingle's contributions as a physical therapist, coach, and mentor. His family, including his wife Melissa and their children, were part of the touching ceremony which also celebrated his posthumous contributions to the sport and his lifelong support for youth in baseball.
