Mississippi State alum Doug Barron wins first PGA Tour Champions major title
SUMMARY: Doug Barron, a golf journeyman, claimed his first PGA Tour Champions major by winning the Regions Tradition in Birmingham, Alabama, after a subdued career following his 1992 graduation from Mississippi State. He finished at 17-under 271, outpacing Steven Alker and legends like Ernie Els and Padraig Harrington. Barron, who also runs a golf academy, faced a low point in 2009 when the PGA suspended him for doping—a ban lifted in 2010 after a legal dispute. Since joining the senior circuit in 2019, Barron, 54, has surpassed his career PGA Tour earnings, totaling over $4.2 million.
