KLLM unveils equipment trucks for 4 Mississippi college football teams
SUMMARY: Mississippi-based company KLLM Transport Services has donated equipment tractor-trailers to college football programs in the state for the 14th year in a row. The trucks, which will be used by Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Southern Miss, and Jackson State, were unveiled at a ceremony. Each school submitted its own design for their truck. Jim Richards, President and CEO of KLLM, said the investment is worth it as it showcases both the schools and the company. The upcoming football season will begin on August 26.

Investigation finds MDEQ did not racially discriminate against Jackson in funding water systems
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) has been cleared of allegations of racial discrimination in its funding of water system improvements for Jackson by the EPA. The probe began after the NAACP filed a complaint. MDEQ claimed to have approved loans for Jackson at higher rates than other cities, allocating over $86 million since a 2012 consent decree with the EPA. MDEQ officials and a former employee highlighted significant loan proportions for Jackson's wastewater projects. The EPA did find procedural deficiencies in MDEQ's processes, but MDEQ argues it complies with federal laws. The NAACP still alleges discrimination against Jackson.

Mississippi accepting applications for program aimed at exploring agricultural opportunities

All FSMIP projects require matching non-federal funds or resources and should benefit multiple producers or businesses. Interested parties must submit their applications by 5:00 p.m., May 22.

SUMMARY: Dr. Michael Hawley, a 44-year-old doctor from Corinth, Alcorn County, has been arrested for a high-speed fatal car crash that claimed the life of 81-year-old William Pady. The incident occurred on April 25, with Hawley allegedly driving over 100 miles per hour—60 mph over the speed limit—on Highway 72 before colliding with Pady's SUV. Hawley, an internal medicine specialist at Magnolia Regional Community Care Clinic, has been charged with manslaughter culpable negligence. It's currently unknown if he has been dismissed from his position, and Magnolia Regional Community Care Clinic has not provided comments on the matter.
