Mississippi Power plans to strengthen power delivery system

SUMMARY: Mississippi Power is upgrading power poles in Gulfport to strengthen the power delivery system in storm-prone areas. They are replacing wooden transmission poles with steel ones to make the equipment more resistant to storms. Over 250 power poles will be upgraded in Gulfport and east towards Biloxi. The upgrades are expected to reduce outage times during storm restoration efforts. The projects are part of a larger storm hardening program and are expected to be completed by the end of 2024. Similar upgrades will be done in Meridian in the future. These upgrades will improve power delivery and reduce outage times for customers in storm-prone areas.

5-year-old electrocuted Thursday night in West Point
