Mississippi files lawsuit against two companies for robocalls

SUMMARY: Mississippi Lynn Fitch has filed lawsuits against The Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation and NaturaLawn of America for violating the Mississippi Telephone Solicitation Act. The companies allegedly made nearly 1,000 unauthorized calls to individuals on the Do Not Call Registry. Fitch emphasizes that telemarketing calls can often to scams and protecting from robocalls is a priority. A new , effective July 1, 2023, the Attorney General's Office the authority to file suits against violators in Chancery Court. The investigations into the companies are ongoing, and individuals who received calls are encouraged to share information to aid in holding them accountable.

3rd-grade state reading assessment passing numbers hold steady

SUMMARY: The Mississippi Department of Education reported that 75.7% of third graders passed the reading assessment on the first try, a slight decrease from the previous year's 76.3% pass rate. In the Monroe County School District, 92.4% of third graders passed on the first attempt, the second highest percentage in the state, while the Baldwyn School District had the lowest pass rate at 45.8%. who did not pass were given a second test in February, with a second retest for June. Mississippi inmate accused of identity theft, wire fraud
