Meggan Monday: Ron Reiter’s life on the water
SUMMARY: The annual Scottish Highlands and Celtic Music festival in south Mississippi transported attendees back to the medieval period with historical reenactments, artisan demonstrations, and athletic contests. Visitors explored Scottish and Celtic cultures, enjoyed traditional music, dance, and discovered their ancestry with Scottish and Irish clans. Highlights included combat reenactments and a jousting competition, designed for safety rather than historical accuracy. The article also touched on Captain Ron Ryder, a 92-year-old schooner captain with a lifelong passion for sailing, who reflects on the beauty of nature and the connection he feels to a higher power. Guests at the festival cherished moments of cultural significance and the shared bonds of heritage.
