Lydia Martinez life sentence still stands
SUMMARY: Lydia Martinez's appeal for a murder conviction in Lowndes County was denied by the state court of appeals. She alleged violations of her right to a speedy trial, improper venue, and a failure to provide a sufficient record for her appeal. Martinez was convicted of first-degree murder for helping her daughter kill Manuel Vasquez, who was married to her daughter at the time. The body of Vasquez was destroyed after the killing in their New Hope home. Despite the appeal denial, Martinez's life sentence still stands.
