Hinds County leaders react to financial audit
SUMMARY: Hinds County Board of Supervisors responds to scathing 2020 audit by State Auditor Shad White. The audit called the county a “walking fraud risk” due to critical understaffing delaying county business, with the audit taking 15 months due to inadequate staffing. County Administrator Kenny Wayne Jones agreed with the findings and is implementing structures to avoid future delays. Both Jones and Supervisor Robert Graham are optimistic about the county's finances, despite the report, and view it as an opportunity for positive changes. They attribute the staffing issues to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Internal audits for 2020 have yet to be completed.
