Harrison County Library requests funding for digital services
SUMMARY: The Harrison County library system is seeking funding to expand their popular Digital Services. Library director, Sarah Chrysler Rusky, requested additional funding at a meeting with the Harrison County Board of Supervisors. Similar library systems in the area allocate 70 to 90 thousand dollars towards their digital programs, while Harrison County only allocates forty thousand dollars. As a result, the board decided to provide an additional 40,000 dollars to the library system. One of the most popular services, called hoopla, offers digital materials such as audio books, ebooks, video materials, and graphic novels. The demand for these materials has been high, and the library system has struggled to keep up.

Local shrimpers say conditions not yet ideal for 2024 season
SUMMARY: Many shrimpers from the coast are heading west this weekend as Louisiana's inshore shrimp season opened on Thursday, while Mississippi waters remain closed. Min Trong, who sells shrimp from his van in Long Beach on weekends, is preparing to open a seafood store. He notes that for the second consecutive year, shrimping conditions have been less than ideal, driving prices down. Factors like excessive freshwater and wind are affecting shrimp availability. Trong anticipates Mississippi's shrimp season to open around mid-June but felt last year's season started too early. Shrimp prices have remained low for the past two years.
Minh Troung and other shrimpers say it'll be a few weeks before conditions are right for shrimping in the Mississippi Sound.
