Happening July 8: Stop the Violence Community Event
SUMMARY: Homicide Hurts is a community event aimed at bringing awareness to gun violence and encouraging unity. The founder Sylvia Washington, who has personally experienced losses related to violence, started the event in 2015. She had two husbands murdered, one in 2008 and another in 2014. The event is important to her because of her personal experiences. Homicide Hurts has a budget of just over $1 million and is focused on keeping unity and fostering community awareness about the issue of gun violence.
Homicide Hurtzz is putting on a Stop the Violence Community Event to help bring awareness to gun violence and encourage unity.

SUMMARY: High school softball state championships began today at Southern Miss with three teams competing for the title. Hancock High School played against South Penola Lady Tigers in a close game, ultimately losing 2-1. Both teams had strong performances with key plays and runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings. The Lady Hawks will have a chance to redeem themselves in game two on Thursday and potentially force a game three on Saturday. Intervest Corporations developers pushing back to build affordable housing in Pascagoula
SUMMARY: Intervest Corporation developers are aiming to expand affordable housing for seniors in Pascagoula by renovating the old science building of the former high school. Despite initial approval from the Planning Commission, the project was not approved by the mayor, who expressed concerns about the location of low-income housing in the downtown area. The developers are seeking an appeal process and hope to bring the project back to the city council for a reconsideration. If approved, they plan to build 23 housing units for elderly residents. The developers believe the project is needed to provide affordable housing for seniors in the community.
Years after a portion of the old Pascagoula High School was converted into affordable housing for seniors, the developer is now hoping to make an expansion.
