Gulfport Arts Center receives grant for renovation
SUMMARY: Major renovations are slated for an aging building thanks to a substantial funding initiative. This investment will give the Gulfport Arts Center a chance to showcase nationally renowned artists and their work in South Mississippi. The old Carnegie Library, a historic coastal landmark over 100 years old, has faced damage from floods and hurricanes, complicating the preservation of artwork inside. The funding, a grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission totaling over $100,000, will help save the building, protect the art, and facilitate art exhibitions from across the country. The Gulfport Arts Center, the city's only nonprofit art studio, received $75,000 from the Commission, along with a $50,000 award from the city for renovations.
The Gulfport Arts Center is receiving a big grant to make some major improvements to its aging building.
