Expert sees more snakes this season and issues warning
SUMMARY: As temperatures rise, snakes in Mississippi may seek refuge in cool areas, including people's homes. There are 55 different types of snakes in the state, with six being venomous. Experts say distinguishing between venomous and non-venomous snakes is all in the eyes, with venomous snakes having slit eyes. Snakes have been more prevalent this year due to a longer winter and more rainfall. While there are beliefs about snake repellents, such as mothballs, they may not be effective unless used in large quantities. If bitten, seek medical attention immediately.
