Annual 'Day of Service' attracts some 450 USM students to volunteer

JCSD reaches settlement agreement with former deputy
SUMMARY: Jones County Sheriff Joe Berlin and management employees have agreed to undergo training on federal anti-discrimination laws, specifically focusing on sexual harassment. This requirement stems from a complaint filed by former deputy Regina Newton, who alleged discrimination and violation of her civil rights. As part of the negotiated settlement agreement, Newton will receive a $5,000 payment. The complaint details instances of harassment, including inappropriate behavior and explicit content shared in a work-related group chat. Newton resigned due to the hostile work environment and filed the charge with the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The agreement does not admit any violation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Crumedy picked in 6th roiund by Carolina;Gore Jr. earns free-agent deal with Buffalo
SUMMARY: For the first time since 2022, no players from Southern Miss were selected in the NFL draft. One notable player left out was Frank Gore Jr., son of NFL Hall of Famer Frank Gore, who quickly signed a free agent deal with the Buffalo Bills, where his father also played.
