Nonprofit group in Hattiesburg warning about the dangers of lead-based products used in older hom…
SUMMARY: The board says the project is still on schedule if weather permits. Today the City of Hattiesburg, in conjunction with the community development division, brought together several organizations to inform the community about the dangers of lead poisoning. The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality, State Health Department, Home Depot, and the EPA all gathered at the train depot to inform people on how to be lead safe. The urban development department says many people in Hattiesburg don't even know how much lead they come in contact with, and warns that any house built prior to 1960 could have lead-safe hazards. All health departments in Mississippi offer free lead poisoning testing for children ages six and other, and the urban development division also tests homes for any lead hazards.
