Columbus and Jackson unite in mourning loss of Monique Montgomery

SUMMARY: Monique Montgomery, a prominent member of the legal and religious communities in Columbus and Jackson, passed away after a brief illness. She had a successful career as a lawyer for nearly 25 years, working as a public defender in Clay County. Montgomery and her husband, Rev. Tony Montgomery, led Missionary Union Baptist Church in Columbus for 22 years before moving to Jackson in 2019 to lead Greater St. James Missionary Baptist Church. She will be remembered in a memorial on Thursday at Greater St. James in Jackson, with visitation on Friday at Missionary Union Baptist Church in Columbus, and funeral services on Saturday at Southside Missionary Baptist Church. Montgomery is survived by her husband and three children. She was 57 years old.

Vehicle overturns on I-20 West in Jackson

SUMMARY: An overturned vehicle on Interstate 20 West in Jackson on April 29 caused traffic backup. One person was thrown from the vehicle and the second was trapped inside. State Senate confirms newest members on IHL Board of Trustees
