City officials, residents split over allocation of grant funds
SUMMARY: Community members are anticipating an arctic blast early next week, and are voicing concerns at city hall about the allocation of funds. Residents and Councilwoman Ella Holmes-Hines argue that funds intended for specific uses are not being managed as expected. The city is hiring a third-party consultant to address the issue. During a recent gathering, Gulfport residents expressed outrage and frustration, claiming that tactics are being used to divert funds intended for low-income African American communities. The city's finance and accounting director and leaders ensure that they are investigating the situation, and a public hearing is scheduled for February 7th.
Thursday afternoon, a community fights to be heard as arguments erupt inside the Gulfport City Hall Chambers during the city's public hearing.
