BolaWrap demo held for law enforcement in Booneville
SUMMARY: Police officers continually seek less lethal options to manage situations or apprehend suspects. Traditional tools like tasers and batons have limitations or risks. A new tool, the BolaWrap, is now available and being showcased at Northeast Mississippi Community College. The BolaWrap is a handheld remote restraint device that deploys a 7.5-foot tether at 513 feet per second, effectively stopping a person from 10 to 15 feet away without causing pain or requiring physical contact. This innovative device is already used by 1,400 police agencies in 62 countries and aims to enhance officer safety and effectiveness.
A new less lethal tool was demoed for law enforcement in Prentiss County on Wednesday.

Freedom Trail Marker
SUMMARY: The public enjoyed activities like line dancing, family karaoke, games, and food trucks at an event commemorating three civil rights activists killed decades ago. The Mississippi Humanities Council unveiled a Freedom Trail marker honoring Michael Schwerner, Andrew Goodman, and James Chaney. These men, killed in 1964 after being released from Neshoba County Jail on suspicion of arson, were found shot near a church where they held meetings. The marker sits across from the old Neshoba County Jail and courthouse where Edgar Ray Killen was convicted. Their sacrifices significantly impacted Mississippi and America, reflecting the state's strong civil rights history.
