Alcorn State alum's inspirational journey started at Piney Woods

SUMMARY: In recent years, more top high school recruits are considering historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) for their athletic careers, with five players transferring to those programs. Adams, a highly ranked basketball player in 1996, chose to attend Alcorn out of the Piney Woods School, which was unusual at the time. Despite this, he had a successful career there, becoming the SWAC Freshman of the Year and leading the team to the . Adams now gives back by and developing young players and is working on a documentary about his basketball career as an inspirational story for others.

The Piney Woods School was the place for Brian Adams. There he honed his skills and developed into one of the top players in the country when he came out of high school in the 90s. He went against the grain at the time and chose Alcorn State. While in Lorman he put together a tremendous career that earned him Hall of Fame honors. Brian's story is one of perseverance carving one's own path. He hopes his career and journey can inspire other young basketball players who hope to accomplish just some of what he was able to do at Piney Woods and Alcorn State.
