Jackson fire station demolished
SUMMARY: The Jackson Fire Department is bidding farewell to their old Fire Station 20 on Medgar Evers Boulevard as demolition crews begin tearing down the building. The new fire station, located next door, prompted many firefighters stationed there to watch the demolition. Veterans of the department expressed mixed feelings as they said goodbye to a building that had been their home for many years. Despite being one of the oldest stations in the city, the firefighters acknowledged that it was time for a change. Good memories and camaraderie were shared in the old building, making it a bittersweet moment for all involved.

Houston educator receives VFW top award
SUMMARY: Stacy Chapman, an English language arts teacher at Houston Middle School, received the VFW's top award for national citizenship education. Fallen tree injures one during storm in Lawrence County
SUMMARY: Lawrence County experienced severe weather that caused widespread damage, with one family's home completely destroyed. The storm hit around 4 in the morning, with five people inside the home at the time. Fortunately, everyone emerged relatively unscathed, with one person needing to be sent to Children's Hospital in Jackson after being trapped under a fallen tree. Despite the extensive damage, there were no serious injuries reported. Richard Lake from 12 News provided a look at the devastation off Robert's Road in Lawrence County, with the community coming together to support those affected by the disaster.
