Bill seeks to cover Confederate flag painting
SUMMARY: A state senator is pushing to remove a Confederate image from the Capitol rotunda. Freshman Senator Bradley Blackman noticed a painting of two Confederate generals raising the flag during renovations. He introduced a bill to replace it with a better representation of the state's history. Blackman believes that Mississippi's rich history and culture should be depicted in the people's house to make everyone feel comfortable. The bill would create a commission to determine a replacement for the painting. Many lawmakers had never noticed the image, but Blackman is determined to make a change.
