Second person has died during winter storm
SUMMARY: A winter storm and arctic blast have caused two deaths in Mississippi. The extreme cold led to the death of one person in Sharkey County, while the first fatality was due to a traffic accident in Humphreys County, both in the Mississippi Delta. Cold weather is expected to continue for the rest of the week. Ice is still being reported on roads in the WCBI viewing area, including in west Alabama, and roads in Lamar and Pickens Counties have been deemed impassable. Authorities are encouraging people to conserve energy.

Jury selection begins for man accused of killing two near Hal’s St. Paddy’s Parade
SUMMARY: Jury selection for Jordan Cummins began on June 10, 2024, following his alleged killing of two people near Hal's St. Paddy's Parade in March 2023. Opening statements are scheduled for June 11. Lottery Sends More than $9.4 Million to State
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Lottery's May transfer of $9,415,899.75 to the state's Education Enhancement Fund (EEF) brings the total for Fiscal Year 2024 to $115,999,429.76. After fulfilling the first $80 million for roads and bridges by February, any additional proceeds go to the EEF, totalling $35,999,429.76 so far. The EEF, which receives ongoing state money, supports early learning collaboratives, math and career coaches, the Teacher Supply Fund, the Mississippi Student Information System upgrades, and technical education grants. The EEF will continue to receive the lottery transfers until the end of June 2024, with figures contingent on financial audits.
