New test of water in Mississippi capital negative for E. coli bacteria, city water manager says
SUMMARY: The interim water manager in Jackson, Mississippi, Ted Henifin, announced that new test results did not find E. coli in the city's water supply, contradicting previous reports of dangerous bacteria in the tap water. Henifin criticized the Mississippi Department of Health for issuing a city-wide boil water notice before confirming the initial results, causing a significant impact on confidence in the water system and local businesses. The notice is still in effect until clean results are obtained from 120 sample locations for two consecutive days. Henifin was appointed as manager in November 2022 to oversee reforms to Jackson's water system after infrastructure breakdowns in the city.
