CMS approves governor’s plan to provide $600 million to Mississippi hospitals
SUMMARY: The CMS has approved a major part of Governor Tate Reeves' plan to allocate nearly $700 million to Mississippi hospitals, despite initial concerns that it might require Medicaid expansion. The Mississippi Hospital Access Program (MHAP) will ensure hospitals are reimbursed close to the commercial rate for treating Medicaid patients in the managed care system. The initiative is expected to provide about $600 million with an additional $89 million pending approval. Governor Reeves praised the collaboration with healthcare professionals that led to the plan's formulation. MDOM is set to distribute the first payments imminently, retroactive to July 1.
