USM baseball extends winning streak to eight games
SUMMARY: Coach Christian Ostrander of Southern Miss treated the game against Old Miss as any other despite the pressure of a five-game losing streak. The fifth largest crowd at Pete Taylor Park showed up, witnessing a strong start from Old Miss. However, Southern Miss fought back, tying the game at 4-4 in the fifth inning. They eventually took the lead in the sixth inning and secured their eighth straight win. Players like Aussie Pratt and Carson Pato played key roles in the victory. The bullpen also delivered seven shutout innings, helping improve their postseason prospects. Despite the significance of beating Old Miss, the focus remains on achieving their big goals.

Monday morning storm splits tree at Lamar County's Optimist Park playground
SUMMARY: the damage to determine the extent of repairs needed. The storm caused damage at Optimist Park in Oak Grove, where a tree fell on a playground. Crews are waiting for the ground to dry before they can remove the tree with heavy machinery. The removal is expected to take place next week if weather permits. However, rainy days could delay the process. Once the tree is removed, Lamar County leaders will assess the damage to determine the necessary repairs. Heath sellers, the Parks and Recreation coordinator, is hopeful that the cleanup will be completed soon.

Pearl River Valley working to restore power near Bassfield
SUMMARY: Pearl River Valley Electric Power Association is still assessing storm damage after high winds hit the Pine Belt area on Monday. Over 10,000 members lost power, but crews have restored it to under 300. The bulk of outages are in the Bassfield area, with about 170 broken power poles. Crews are clearing debris to replace infrastructure. The recovery process has been lengthy, but they are hopeful to soon have everyone back up and running. Thanks to contract crews and linemen for their hard work. Crews will be working into the night to restore power.
