Hinds County supervisors approve controversial solar farm
SUMMARY: The Hinds County Board of Supervisors approved a controversial solar farm in Hinds County, Mississippi, with a 3-2 vote. Supervisors Robert Graham, Tony Smith, and Wanda Evers supported the project, while Deborah Butler-Dixon and Bobby McGowan opposed it. The 5,800-acre solar farm, owned by Apex Clean Energy, will surround Bolton and Raymond and power 95,000 homes, making it the largest in the state. Despite preserving 800 acres of wetlands, floodplains, and forests, residents fear the project's impact on wildlife and property values. Apex's director, Brian O'Shea, detailed that only 4,000 acres would be actively used for facilities.
