New Mississippi superintendent of education won’t be named until December

The search for a new superintendent began after Dr. Carey Wright announced her retirement. The previous nominee for the position, Dr. Robert Taylor, was rejected by the Senate. In the meantime, there have been two interim superintendents, with Dr. Ray Morgigno currently serving in the position.

William Carey freshman set to compete in 2024 Summer Olympics

6 Mississippi college football figures considered for Hall of Fame induction

State hospital employee arrested for murder after patient dies

SUMMARY: Keshawn Carpenter, a direct care worker at East Mississippi Hospital in Meridian, Mississippi, has been and charged with murder the of a patient. The arrest was made by the Mississippi of Investigation. The patient, identified as Christopher Hamilton, required emergency care on May 31 and subsequently died on June 2. Although the cause of Hamilton's death has not been revealed, foul play is suspected. Carpenter is currently held at the Lauderdale County Detention Center on a $250,000 bond. This incident is under heightened scrutiny and ongoing investigation.
