Medical marijuana cardholders in Mississippi jumps to 17,000
SUMMARY: The number of medical marijuana cardholders in Mississippi has increased to over 17,000, up from 1,500 in January, according to the Mississippi Medical Marijuana Association Executive Director Ken Newburger. The increase is due to legislative action and work by the Mississippi State Department of Health. Newburger believes the number of cardholders will continue to rise for another six or seven months before tapering off. He also noted that more family doctors are becoming certified to prescribe medical marijuana. It is expected that approximately 150,000 residents in the state will receive a medical marijuana card in the next few years.
