State lawmakers allocate historic level of funding for MDOT projects in 2023

lawmakers allocated a historic amount of money to the () during the 2023 legislative to improve and fully fund capacity projects.

MDOT received a total of nearly $2 , which includes roughly $1.5 billion in earmark- appropriation as well as a $620 million supplemental appropriation. The additional will be spent on major construction projects, emergency road and bridge repair, and multimodal projects such as ports, rail, and airports.

MDOT's $620 million supplemental appropriation will be allocated as follows:

$450 million for capacity projects, which are construction projects that add lanes and/or build new roadways to increase traffic capacity.$100 million for the Emergency Road and Bridge Repair Fund (ERBRF), which provides funding to revitalize local roads and bridges across the state.$30 million for a new fund for multimodal projects to better address the needs of ports, …

Bond denied for man charged in Jackson park homicide

SUMMARY: Nineteen-year-old Daveon Lindsey appeared in court for the murder of Melvin McNair, Jr. at a park. Lindsey was denied bond for capital murder and armed robbery charges, but received bonds for other related charges. The shooting happened at Parham Bridges Park, where McNair was found dead, and his stolen vehicle was recovered. Lindsey led on a chase and admitted to shooting McNair with an assault rifle. Lindsey was found with the victim's blood and credit cards. His motive remains unknown. Lindsey has a prior arrest for burglary.

SUMMARY: A storm chase group traveled from Sweetwater, TX to northern Oklahoma near Ponca , experiencing severe storms with wind and hail. The storms quickly developed along a warm front, with potential observed. The storm evolved into a large supercell moving southeast toward Ponca City, producing softball-sized hail. Another storm moved northwest of OKC, producing rotation and strong wind gusts but no tornado. The group observed these storms from their hotel, experiencing lightning, rotation, and outflow wind gusts of about 40 mph.
