Amory schools to resume classes 3 weeks after deadly EF-3 tornado
As the city of Amory works to recover from a deadly EF-3 tornado, the Amory School District has announced that classes will resume on Tuesday morning.
This will be the first time classes have taken place since March 24 when the tornado tore through the area, killing 21. The Amory School District released the following statement on Friday:
“We are happy to announce classes for Amory School District will resume on Tuesday, April 11th. However, due to concerns regarding roadside debris and the presence of heavy equipment, we will NOT run buses when schools open Tuesday, April 11th. If students are unable to attend school due to the lack of bus transportation or for any other reason, please contact the Amory High School office through REMIND, SCHOOL STATUS, or EMAIL (mgilleylen@amoryschools.com) as the phones may be tied up. If the absence is unavoidable, students will be allowed to make up work. Additionally, Amory School District will be in session on April 14th, due to the Amory…

East Webster baseball looks to bring home fourth state championship

3rd-grade state reading assessment passing numbers hold steady
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Department of Education reported that 75.7% of third graders passed the state reading assessment on the first try, a slight decrease from the previous year's 76.3% pass rate. In the Monroe County School District, 92.4% of third graders passed on the first attempt, the second highest percentage in the state, while the Baldwyn School District had the lowest pass rate at 45.8%. Mississippi inmate accused of identity theft, wire fraud
SUMMARY: State Auditor Shad White announced the first indictment associated with Operation Payback, involving over half a billion dollars in illegal unemployment compensation payments during COVID. Kenjarell Thomas from Jackson was served with a 59 count indictment related to identity theft, fraudulent representation, and wire fraud. Thomas allegedly applied for unemployment benefits while in prison, using multiple prisoners' personal information and his mother's address to receive payments. Suspected fraud can be reported to the Auditor's office online or by phone.
