Gov. Reeves signs bill regulating Jackson’s tax spending

Governor Tate Reeves has signed a bill into requiring the of to monthly reports of how it spends its additional one percent tax dollars.

On Monday, Reeves signed House Bill 1168, authored by Representative Trey Lamar, R-Senatobia, originally authored to mandate for the city's one percent sales tax to only be used on fixing issues with the capital city's and sewer system.

The legislation was later amended to require Jackson to supply detailed monthly reports the names of vendors and how much they were paid courtesy of the one percent sales tax.

Mississippi's capital city will be subject to annual audits. Failure by the city to comply with audits and requirements within 30 days after receiving written notice of noncompliance will result in the Department of Revenue withholding payments to the municipality.

More witnesses take the stand in Beth Ann White retrial

Teen charged in death of 14-year-old in Jackson appears in court

SUMMARY: A teenager, John Foote, has been charged with murder for the shooting of 14-year-old Cameron Horne-Crook in , Mississippi. During a preliminary hearing, Foote was denied bond. Two other teenagers, Maxle Mooneyham and Siyaski Crawford, were also in connection to the shooting. Mooneyham was charged with tampering with evidence and Crawford with accessory to murder. Crawford admitted to moving the victim's body after the shooting. Additionally, Cameron Horne-Crook's brother, Horne, was also killed in a separate shooting incident in the area.
