Lighthouse Academy selected for Star Outreach Program
An Ocean Springs special purpose school is selected for the Star Outreach Program.
Presented with a $5,000 check, Lighthouse Academy for Dyslexia will support tuition assistance and teacher training.
Their mission is to bring awareness to dyslexia as well as reach students and families in need across all six coastal counties.

SUMMARY: The Pearl River Community College rodeo team had a successful weekend at Northwest, with the men's team finishing sixth and the women's team finishing second. The women's team also secured the Ozark Region Reserve Champion title, earning them a spot in the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper. Kate Eiland was named the All-Around Champion and tied for first in breakaway roping. Erin McLaughlin, Juliana Jennings, and others also performed well in breakaway roping. Kate Eiland and Bryson Crawford advanced to the championship round in team roping. Overall, the team had a strong showing and is looking forward to the upcoming finals.

SUMMARY: The University of Southern Mississippi is launching the Roy Howard Community Journalism Center in fall 2024 to train journalists in providing important, fact-based reporting for under-reported communities in the state and combatting disinformation. Named after Roy W. Howard, the center will educate students in providing reliable news coverage, debunking false information, and promoting media literacy. It will also establish partnerships and bureaus in different locations to create professional-level local content and build trust with the community. SUMMARY: The Dr. William Lewis Honors Institute at Pearl River Community College in Mississippi held its annual Medallion Ceremony in April. The event recognized honors students from Forrest County and Poplarville Campuses, including Middle College students. Students had to complete at least 21 hours of honors coursework and maintain a 3.4 GPA to receive a medallion. Guest speakers, including students and faculty members, shared insights on the importance of the Honors Institute in fostering academic excellence. The ceremony concluded with inspiring remarks challenging students to make the most out of their education and future endeavors. A list of students awarded honors medallions was also provided.
