Waveland hosting annual crawfish boil to benefit Hancock County Resource Center
SUMMARY: Waveland is hosting their annual Crawfish Boil this weekend to benefit the Hancock County resource center. The event will feature 10,000 lbs of crawfish prepared by 25 teams, with all-you-can-eat tickets priced at $35. Kids aged 1-17 can attend for $10, with children under 10 getting in for free. The event will also include a band, competitions, and activities for the whole family. The money raised will help the resource center cover expenses not included in grant funding, supporting their work with housing needs, domestic violence, veterans, and youth programs. The event will take place on Saturday, April 20th in Waveland.

Happening May 1-11: Spring Art Exhibit in Pascagoula
SUMMARY: The 45th Spring Art Exhibit and sale in Pascagoula is featuring a variety of artwork from different artists, including wood carving, mixed media, photography, pastel, drawing, and sculpture. The exhibit is open to counties in Mississippi and Mobile County in Alabama. The reception is free and open to the public on Friday, May 3rd, from 4:00 to 7:00, with refreshments and artists receiving awards. SUMMARY: A Moss Point Barber School and Salon have been ordered to pay over $900,000 for committing fraud. The owner, April Tucker Beard, falsely certified hours of classes to defraud a veterans education assistance program, receiving over $230,000 in tuition payments. Attorneys successfully won a civil lawsuit against Beard, accusing her of defrauding thousands from the program that provides tuition assistance for veterans. Beard's Salon and barber school must now pay the hefty sum as a result of the fraudulent activities.
