USM Gulf Park hosting ‘2020 Discover Gulf Park’ event for potential students
SUMMARY: USM in Long Beach is hosting a free event called Discover Go Park for prospective students and their families. The event will take place on March 2nd and will provide information about the university's academic departments, campus tours, and financial aid options. The event aims to help students learn about the programs offered, get a feel for campus life, and find out about available scholarships and grants. The university is known for its programs in social work, nursing, and psychology and offers a smaller, more intimate campus experience for students.
Calling all prospective students and their families to USM in Long Beach, you have the chance to discover what it is like to be a Golden Eagle this month with a free event.

The free event takes place Tuesday, March 10th at the Long Beach campus. Check in is at 2 p.m. and the program runs from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m.
SUMMARY: The Weather Authority has issued an expanded severe weather threat level for South Mississippi, especially along the coastline. The Storm Prediction Center's outlook is being closely monitored, with the potential for damaging winds, tornadoes, large hail, and flooding. The current forecast includes warm temperatures and high humidity, but a cold front approaching will bring relief from the muggy conditions. The focus is on the overnight and morning hours for potential severe weather development. Although complex, the forecast highlights the interaction between dry air in the mid levels and warm, moist air from the Gulf of Mexico. Stay tuned for updates on this evolving weather situation.
5/9 – Trey Tonnessen's “Enhanced Severe Risk” Thursday Night Forecast
SUMMARY: The city of Discovery in Jackson County Ocean Springs is hosting the Taste of Ocean Springs Food and Wine Festival, with restaurants setting up booths at the l&n Depot for people to sample delicious treats. The festival is happening tonight from 6-8:30 p.m. Tickets are required for entry. In addition, Cruisin on the Coast, voted the best car event in the country, recently won USA Today's 10 Best Reader Choice Awards for 2024. The event, which started in 1996 with 374 vintage vehicles, broke records in 2023 with over 10,000 registered cruisers from 45 states, Canada, England, and Germany. The award is seen as a testament to the hard work put in over the years.
The Taste of Ocean Springs Food and Wine Festival is happening Thursday night at the L&N Depot.

SUMMARY: Local gymnast Brook Perkins from Laners Gymnastics won first place in floor at the regional level, competing against eight other states including Mississippi. She also placed in the top 10 for vault. Perkins finds the competition season to be a grind, but believes the end result is worth it when she receives awards for her hard work. Laners Gymnastics also had success at the state level, with several First Place state champions bringing home hardware. Perkins' dedication and hard work have paid off, and she is proud of her accomplishments in gymnastics.
Perkins says while it can be a grind going from competition to competitions the end result is well worth it.
