Texas State continued to dominate, taking a 14-0 lead. Southern Miss tried to respond, but Billy Wiles threw an interception. Texas State capitalized on their opportunity and extended their lead. Southern Miss mounted a comeback in the second half, scoring 26 unanswered points. However, it was too little, too late, as Texas State held on for the win. Billy Wiles had 257 passing yards, 2 touchdowns, and an interception, while Frank Gore had 116 rushing yards and a touchdown.
