Truewood by Merrill holds 3rd annual Gumbo Cook-Off
SUMMARY: The community is hosting a gumbo cook-off today to celebrate the Mardi Gras season and raise money for Alzheimer's research. This is the third annual cook-off, with six different gumbo recipes competing. Residents were given tickets to vote for their favorite recipe, and the grand prize winner got their own gumbo bowl full of ingredients. Carl Wallace, the community relations director, emphasized the importance of engaging the community and showing that senior living doesn't have to be boring. This is not the last chapter in someone's life, and the community is continuing the fun by throwing a senior event next week.
Six different gumbos went head-to-head to determine the crowd favorite. Some were made in-house, others brought by outside teams.
