SUMMARY: The NFL season and local JUCO football teams have both started. Holmes faced Pearl River, with Deion Smith, a former J-A Raider and LSU wideout, playing for Holmes. The game started with Holmes leading 7-0, thanks to Maxton Woodward's sack. Smith made exciting moves and helped keep the drive going with three straight catches. Lonnie Ratliff scored an awesome play from the scramble drill, leading to a 98-yard touchdown. Holmes won 31-0. Hinds lost to Northeast 20-7, while Co-Lin upset East Mississippi 23-20. Murrah defeated Forest Hill with a score of 12-0 in the high school game.

The JUCO football season opened on Thursday night for area programs and there was some high school action as well. Check out the highlights as Holmes and Co-Lin Community College open their 2023 seasons with big wins and Murrah remains undefeated.

Straw purchasers could face up to 15 years in prison and $250,000 in fines.
