Shelter ready to open in Jackson during extreme cold
SUMMARY: The Shepard's Gym, Sykes Park Community Center, and the Jackson Police Department Training Academy in Jackson, MS will provide temporary shelter for those in need. Shepard's Gym is the primary location for aid and will open on January 15 at 11 AM. Constituent Services Manager Chris Gray says all shelter locations are open to the public and will provide a safe environment with around the clock security. They are prepared to be open 24 hours if needed and will provide cots, blankets, water, and hot meals. The public is encouraged to call the Mayor's hotline at 601-960-1111 for further information.

High winds knocked down trees and power lines in Columbus
