Parties express optimism ahead of Mississippi primary
SUMMARY: On the eve of primary election day, the Democratic Party is excited about new leadership and competitive primaries, believing it may bring a “blue wave.” State Representative Cheikh Taylor, who took over the state Democratic Party just 31 days ago, expressed excitement about the type of candidates they are putting forward and the real solutions they offer. The Mississippi Republican Party has not responded to interview requests, but party chairman Frank Bordeaux mentioned the hard work being done by Republican candidates to reach out to voters. Madison Mayor Mary Hawkins Butler endorsed Republican State Senator Chris McDaniel for lieutenant governor, citing alleged meetings involving Lieutenant Governor Delbert Hosemann and a potential split of the Madison and Rankin Counties judicial district. Lieutenant Governor Hosemann has refuted these claims. The endorsement by Mayor Butler may be significant as the Jackson metro area is a large voting base for Lieutenant Governor Hosemann.

Union County fire department working to raise money for storm shelters
SUMMARY: The North Haven volunteer fire department in Union County is looking to provide storm shelters for their community to protect residents from tornadoes. After a tornado hit a nearby town leaving people without safe shelter, the fire department wants to prevent a similar situation in their area. The cost of each shelter is between $8,000 to $110,000, but they believe it is an important investment in the safety of their community. To raise the necessary funds, they are organizing a fried catfish supper with live music and entertainment. Community support is crucial to making these shelters a reality and ensuring the safety of the residents.

JTRAN drivers still have gripes
SUMMARY: The managing company of Jay Tran buses assured riders that there would be no disruption in service, despite the possibility of a driver strike. Many riders depend on the bus service for their daily transportation needs and were relieved that buses were running on schedule. The Jay Tran employees' union has grievances against the management company, claiming drivers are overworked and penalized for calling in sick. The mayor has scheduled a meeting with the workers to address these issues and urged them to consider the impact on riders before taking any further actions. Riders expressed concern about being caught in the middle of the dispute between management and labor.
