Oral arguments set in Mississippi private school funding appeal
SUMMARY: The Mississippi State Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in an appeal that challenges the constitutionality of private schools receiving public funds. The case stems from the Mississippi Legislature providing $10 million in federal American Rescue Plan Act funds to private schools. A nonprofit, Parents for Public Schools, challenged the allocation in court and won, with a judge finding it unconstitutional to provide public money for private schools. The Mississippi Center for Justice Attorney argues that taxpayer money for education should go to public schools, not private schools. The oral arguments have been set for February 6, 2024.
